This is a big landscape painting of the edge of an oak grove on the slopes of Mt. Diablo, in the fading light of evening. A path winds its way past the trees, before climbing a hill into the last light of day.A flock of crows have come to rest on the branches.
When I first moved out to the Bay Area in my early 20′s, I hiked and painted all over Mt. Diablo. It’s still one of my favorite places to paint, with its classic California landscape and its dramatic vistas.

Diablo Oaks, Oil on Linen, 48″ x 60″
Here’s the painting on the easel, to give a sense of its scale and presence as an object.
